SHU Vegetarian
About This Spot
Stepping into SHU Vegetarian on Jalan Kayu feels like entering a familiar neighborhood haven, where the hum of casual chatter mixes warmly with the inviting aromas of a kitchen cooking with intention. The pace here is unpretentious, welcoming those who seek both a comforting meal and an easygoing atmosphere that suits late-night cravings just as well as midday gatherings.
Whether you settle into the air-conditioned comfort inside or soak in the laid-back alfresco vibe, the surroundings encourage a relaxed, unhurried experience. It’s the sort of spot where locals drop by after a long day or find company in groups large and small, drawn by the reliable flavors and reasonable prices that make it a quietly dependable choice in Singapore’s ever-changing food scene.
The menu echoes that approachable spirit, offering a varied array of vegetarian interpretations on familiar favorites — think mala hotpot rich with layers of vegetables and tofu, or the fragrant olive fried rice that carries a subtle yet memorable nuance. As evening stretches on, SHU’s kitchen shifts gears, presenting dishes that feel thoughtfully crafted to satisfy those who crave variety and heartiness late into the night.
Beyond the food, there’s an underlying sense of steadiness here. The bustling but well-managed service means your meal arrives promptly without fuss, a comforting rhythm for those who return time and again. And while the alfresco seating invites you to enjoy the street's gentle evening breeze, those wary of Singapore’s sudden showers will find relief indoors, keeping the experience relaxed no matter the weather.
SHU Vegetarian doesn’t just serve food; it offers a connection to the neighborhood’s daily rhythms — a place shaped by its patrons who appreciate authenticity more than flair. Here, vegetarian dining sheds any formality and instead becomes a shared, heartfelt moment over a warm meal that’s as sincere as it is satisfying.

You can count on the flavours at SHU Vegetarian. A long time customer, SHU's food never disappoints. This time we had the vegetarian shark fin egg, Luo Han Zai, creamy sauce abalone mushrooms, rojak, curry noodles, and monkeyhead mushroom with broccoli. Everything was delicious except the monkeyhead mushroom dish. It's a reliable spot for tasty vegetarian food, and we’ll definitely be back again.

Good value fantastic taste freshly cooked food in aircon (warm!) or alfresco. Served promptly but don’t expect much customer oriented care. Can be a squeeze inside especially on Buddhist calendar days. At 9pm to 1am there is a range of dishes that customers could pick from, like scoop scoop or teochew muay style. Nasi lemak only starts at 9pm (not at lunch time:(

Before heading over to Bike Station to check out their stock clearance, Kitty and another couple enjoyed a meal with me at SHU Vegetarian on Jalan Kayu. The location was super convenient, setting us up perfectly for our next stop. We were all really pleased with the food, everything was quite tasty and satisfying. The highlight, for sure, was their "Samba Juice," which was incredibly refreshing and a great way to kick off our meal. I'd definitely recommend SHU Vegetarian to anyone looking for a delicious vegetarian meal in the Jalan Kayu area. It was a fantastic choice and made for a perfect start to our outing.

The key thing for Shu is - It's really difficult this F&B landscape but they have managed to keep their food affordable, and delicious. Try the nasi briyani and the grilled "fish", hard to get these prices else where.

Was walking around the area and can't really decide on where to eat, decided to eat here as there's air-con but the plus point is that the food here is delicious! Ordered the Olive Fried Rice, Claypot Ee Mian, Monkey Head Mushroom with Broccoli and everything tasted fantastic! However, it was a bit salty but acceptable for us! Price is also reasonable considering that it's vegetarian, they also have mala hotpot which we will come back and try one day! Overall, a delicious meal

SHU Vegetarian: A Great Start Before Bike Station! Before heading over to Bike Station to check out their stock clearance, Donkey, myself and another couple (whose wife is vegetarian) enjoyed a meal at SHU Vegetarian on Jalan Kayu. The location was convenient, setting us up perfectly for our next stop. We were all pleased with the food – everything was quite tasty and satisfying. The highlight, without a doubt, was their "Samba Juice," which was incredibly refreshing and a great way to kick off our evening. SHU Vegetarian is a fantastic choice for anyone looking for a delicious vegetarian meal in the Jalan Kayu area, and it made for a perfect start to our outing.

I WISHHH there were more vegetarian supper spots in singapore like this is lowk the only one that a veg girlie can satisfy her midnight cravings with the wide array of pratas (they even have pizza prata? it’s $10 though but can try is can try!) they do have other foods like mala, zichar & caifan too! they’re also located in the famous supper stretch so it’s a vibeeee (sorry i can’t find any more pics)
